In 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo (8 or Better) "pot"-that is- pools are divided between the highest and the lowest set made from cards- 8 and lower. Because in a "low" set straights do not count, the best set is A-2-3-4-5. The player can use this set as "high" as well as "low".

When the player has a pair of threes as a "high" set and 7-5-4-3-A as a "low" set.

7-6-4-3-2 cards win in a "low" set against 7-6-5-3-2-A. In other words, if initial cards are the same (7-6-x-x-x), the player with the next lower card in asset is the winner (4 is lower than 5).

In a low set you can not use two or more cards of the same worth (pairs, three of a kind, four of a kind), i.e.: when the player has:

(3§ 5¨) 4§ 4ª 6§ 4¨ (3¨).

It does not count as a "low" set, because the player can only use one four and one three (counterfit cards). The player has Fours Full House over three as a "high" set.

Strategy in 7 Stud Hi-Lo

The best initial cards in 7 Stud Hi-Lo:

1. A Three of a Kind i.e. (A-A)A, (2-2)2

2. (A-A) 8x (8x= an eight or a lower card)

3. (A-5x) 5x (5x= a five or less) in one colour

4. Low "connectors" in one colour, i.e. (4¨ 3¨) 2¨

5. (A-A) 9x (9x= a nine or higher)

6. A and two cards from 2 to 5 or lower in different colours

7. Three cards from 2 to5 in different colours

8. Three cards in one colour: one Ace, one8 or less, one 9 or higher

9. Three cards in sequence i.e. (4-5)6 or (5-6)7
