Texas Hold'em Poker Strategy
Strategy after Flop
Sometimes while playing Hold`em, when the croupier puts Flop on the table, you will get Straight away a set of cards which will allow you to win the pools. However, more often Flop disappoints us. It makes no sense to keep cards like that, the best thing to do is to reject them. It frequently happens that in Flop you have a set of cards which would enable you to win, but you miss that one card…It happens that in Flop we have i.e. four cards for straight, four cards for flush and a chance for the highest pair… Is it worth betting?
Outs and Odds in Texas Hold`em.
We are going to learn how in an easy and quick way we can calculate chances of winning a certain card set in Hold`em. That is, how to find outs and calculate odds.
Outs: In poker a word "outs" means the number of possible cards needed to make a certain card set. For example, if you have in your hands four spades, to make flush on Turn you need one out of nine spades cards left in the pack. That is why, in this case you have 9 "outs" to make flush.
Odds: Odds (or Hand Odds) in poker means "a chance of getting" a certain card set. Hand Odds is usually presented as a fraction x/1 (i.e. 4/1 or just 4).Pot Odds is a ratio of quantity of the bet and the value of the pool.
An example:
Let`s say that you have two spades and two spades on Turn ( four cards in one colour). Because you (the player) can see 6 cards altogether out of 52 cards ( two pocket cards three Flop cards + one Turn card). What are the chances that, out of 46 cards left in the pack, you will get that one card you need for Flush? Out of 46 cards left in the pack- in this case- there are 9 spades (outs) which would help you "complete" Flush. Thus, the chances of getting one of nine cards left in the pack of spades in River equals:
9/46x 100%=19.6%

A very easy way of calculating Odds is to multiply Odds number by two. You will get the nearest percentage number of getting a certain set of cards. Next, just like below, divide 100 by this number and take away 1. This way you will get hand odds. Then compare hand odds to pot odds. If pot odds is bigger than hand odds, it is worth betting (the bet has so called "positive expected value").
Hands Odds and Pot Odds
Knowing the percentage of getting a card needed to make a certain set of cards, you can calculate so called Hand Odds. That is the chances of getting a card and comparing it to Pot Odds - that is a ratio of bet quantity and the pool value.
An example:
The player has 9 outs in Turn, the percentage of getting a needed set of cards is 19.6%. The player calculates Hand Odds =
100:x%-1.
In this case: 100:19.6-1= 4.1
Hand Odds equals 4.1. Let`s say that there are $120 in the pool, your (the player`s) bet is $20. Is it worthwhile putting in the pool $20 and hoping that you will get a card that you need (and win the pool)? In this example YES, because the pool is higher than 4.1 times of needed bet. In this case Pot Odds is higher than Hand Odds because your bet is $120 in the pool.
120:20> 4.1

Frequent outs:
- flush draw with one over card - 12 outs
- flush draw - 9 outs
- open-ended straight draw - 8 outs
- two over cards - 6 outs
- gun-shot straight draw - 4 outs
